| The other day I walked into an Eastern Mountain Sports store to look around. I have not been in one in YEARS, ever since I stopped climbing. Long story short there was a really nice sales person there named Tim. Now it was very obvious that Tim spends WAY to much time alone in the woods. But, he did get me to try on and buy a really nice pair of boots. I was wondering what kind of boots you guys use when you go out hiking? |

Mine are by "Vasque". I bought them at the Rugged Boot in Mohegan Lake. It's a great local business, who take a lot of time to make sure you get exactly what you need. But they only do shoes and socks.

I got a $40 dollar pair of waterproof Skechers, cheap, but I only use them for rugged terrain, snow, rain, and otherwise on 3.5+ terrain, or a muddy/rainy/hailing day. Mainly my everyday shoes (Air Jordans, Nike stuff) work pretty well.
However, I really do like a lot of things about those hiking boots, especially when wearing long pants, you can just step on thorns with ease, so you can get over them with out being pricked, and the traction, for say when crossing a stream.

Once it gets warmer I start wearing my hiking sandals. It has an enclosed toe like a boot or sneaker and has great traction. And I can step in any puddle or swamp as needed. ie: Swampster

Update: I just got home from an 8 mile hike at sam's point... Walked all day in them and I have to say they are certainly comfortable. I figure 8 miles out of the box with no break in period that was good

I wear a pair of Merrell hiking boots that I got at DSW in Danbury. Very comfortable.
